Data centre overview

The air pollution data centre provides access to data and information related to the amount of air pollutants emitted into the atmosphere from different anthropogenic (human-made) sources as well as measured ambient air pollution at monitoring stations across Europe. The air pollution data centre also provides access to related products for air pollution indicators and assessments. Priority is given to providing policy-relevant data and information for European and national institutions, professionals, researchers and the public.

Green Tip #2 : Minimize System Effect in Air System; Conventional air-system design processes result in an ideal fan type, size, and speed for ideal conditions. But in the field, actual conditions are often less than ideal. Air Movement And Control Association International, INC.

Obstacles to duct runs lead to sharp turns or changes in elevation, and then another correction to resume the planned path. Or, there might not be enough room for the ideal length of inlet or outlet duct to establish fully developed airflow. The results of less-than-ideal fan conditions are summarily called system effect. Hi Fans & Blowers Checklist

This section lists the most important energy efficiency options:

ƒ -Use smooth, well-rounded air inlet cones for fan air intake.

ƒ- Avoid poor flow distribution at the fan inlet.

ƒ- Minimize fan inlet and outlet obstructions.

ƒ- Clean screens, filters and fan blades regularly.

ƒ Minimize fan speed

ƒ -Use low slip or flat belts for power transmission.

ƒ -Check belt tension regularly.

ƒ -Eliminate variable pitch pulleys.

ƒ -Use variable speed drives for large variable fan loads.

ƒ -Use energy-efficient motors for continuous or near continuous operation.

ƒ -Eliminate leaks in duct works.

ƒ -Minimize bends in duct works.

ƒ -Turn fans and blowers off when not needed

ƒ -Reduce the fan speed by pulley diameter modifications in case of over sized motors.

ƒ -Adopt inlet guide vanes in place of discharge damper control.

ƒ- Change metallic / Glass reinforced plastic (GRP) impeller by more energy efficient.

-hollow FRP impeller with aerofoil design.

ƒ -Try to operate the fan near its best operating point (BEP).

ƒ -Reduce transmission losses by using energy efficient flat belts or cogged raw-edged V belts instead of conventional V-belt systems.

ƒ -Minimizing system resistance and pressure drops by improving the duct system.

ƒ -Ensure proper alignment between drive and driven system.

ƒ -Ensure proper power supply quality to the motor drive.

ƒ -Regularly check for vibration trend to predict any incipient failures like bearing damage, misalignment, unbalance, foundation looseness etc.

ASHRAE writes standards for the purpose of establishing consensus for: 1) methods of test and classification standards 2) design standards, 3) protocol standards; and 4) rating standards (in limited cases). Consensus standards are developed and published to define minimum values or acceptable performance whereas other documents, such as guidelines may be developed and published to encourage enhanced performance.
